Entering the Death Disco hall, Dreambleed had just got on stage. Not being familiar with their album and not particularly fond of their musical style, I waited for this concert to get a first taste of the newcomers. Unfortunately, due to the bad sound, I’m not sure I realized the potential of the band. The bloated sound on drums overshadowed the rest of the instruments, the guitar was barely hearable, and the singer made commendable efforts to be heard and at the same time to stir up the audience who had filled the small space of Death Disco. Despite the obvious technical difficulties, Dreambleed showed youthful zeal though without sharp compositions, they could enrapture to an extent, the benevolent listener. The adaptation on “Fragile Dreams” (Anathema) shortly before leaving the stage was a good prologue for Antimatter that would follow.
The British appeared at around 22:30 respecting precisely the program. The trio appeared on stage with the leading figure -who else- the singer and bassist Mike Moss, who had with him a very dynamic drummer and the third member in the role of guitarist and keyboardist.
“Killer” from their latest album “Judas Table” opened their appearance with the band performing with obviously heavier sound than the studio recordings. Their performance on favourite tracks such as “Paranova”, “Monochrome” sounded heavier with the sound significantly improved compared to Dreambleed. The band’s performance ranged quite high and this found reflection to the audience’s reactions who seemed to get what they wanted: melancholic melodic music that had a latent prog sound that definitely satisfied those who were once nurtured with that period of Anathema. Tracks such as “Leaving Eden” and “Worms” advocated to the success of Antimmater, who after a cover version of “Welcome To The Machine” (recently released as a single) and their classic encore “Stillborn Empires”, left the stage in cheers.
Overall, it was a pretty good live for Antimatter that prove to be a concert constant of the Greek audience (let us not forget their recorded live at An), that satisfied their friends, as I could see on the faces of the attendants as we were leaving Death Disco.

Προσερχόμενος στην αίθουσα του Death Disco, οι Dreambleed είχαν μόλις αρχίσει την εμφάνισή τους. Χωρίς να είμαι εξοικειωμένος με το δίσκο που έχουν κυκλοφορήσει και ούτε ιδιαίτερα φίλος του μουσικού τους στυλ, περίμενα αυτή τη συναυλία για να πάρω μια πρώτη γεύση της νεοφώτιστης αυτής μπάντας. Δυστυχώς, εξαιτίας του κακού ήχου δεν είμαι σίγουρος πως αντιλήφθηκα τις δυνατότητες της μπάντας. Ο υπερδιογκωμένος ήχος στα ντραμς επισκίαζε τα υπόλοιπα όργανα, η κιθάρα σχεδόν δεν ακουγόταν, ενώ ο τραγουδιστής κατέβαλε αξιέπαινες προσπάθειες να ακουστεί και παράλληλα να ξεσηκώσει το κοινό που είχε γεμίσει τo μικρό χώρο του Death Disco. Παρά τις καταφανείς τεχνικές δυσχέρειες, η μπάντα απέπνεε νεανικό ζήλο που αν και δεν μετουσιωνόταν σε ευκρινείς συνθέσεις, μπορούσε να συνεπάρει -ως ένα βαθμό- τον καλοπροαίρετο ακροατή. Η διασκευή που επιχείρησαν στο “Fragile Dreams” των Anathema λίγο πριν εγκαταλείψουν τη σκηνή ήταν μια καλή πρόγευση για τη μουσική των Αntimatter που θα ακολουθούσε.
Οι Βρετανοί Antimatter εμφανίστηκαν -τηρώντας με ακρίβεια το πρόγραμμα- γύρω στις 22:30. Η τριάδα που εμφανίστηκε επί σκηνής είχε ως ηγετική μορφή -ποιον-άλλον- από τον τραγουδιστή και μπασίστα Mike Moss, που είχε μαζί του έναν πολύ δυναμικό ντράμερ και το τρίτο μέλος ανέλαβε τον δισυπόστατο ρόλο του κιθαρίστα και πληκτρά.
Το “Killer” από τον τελευταίο τους δίσκο “Judas Table” άνοιξε την εμφάνισή τους με την μπάντα να αποδίδει με εμφανώς πιο σκληρό ήχο σε σχέση με τις στούντιο ηχογραφήσεις. Οι εκτελέσεις σε αγαπημένα κομμάτια όπως “Paranova”, “Monochrome” ακούγονταν πιο heavy με τον ήχο να είναι αισθητά βελτιωμένος σε σύγκριση με τους Dreambleed. Η απόδοση της μπάντας κυμάνθηκε σε αρκετά υψηλά επίπεδα και αυτό βρήκε αντανάκλαση στις αντιδράσεις του κοινού που έδειχνε να παίρνει αυτό που ήθελε: μελαγχολική μελωδική μουσική που κάπου διέθετε ένα λανθάνοντα prog ήχο και σίγουρα ικανοποιούσε όσους κάποτε γαλουχήθηκαν με την ενδιάμεση περίοδο των Anathema. Κομμάτια όπως τα “Leaving Eden” και “Worms” συνηγόρησαν στην επιτυχία των Antimatter, οι οποίοι μετά από μία διασκευή στο “Welcome To The Machine” των Floyd (κυκλοφόρησε πρόσφατα και ως single) και το πατροπαράδοτο encore “Stillborn Empires” εγκατέλειψαν τη σκηνή καταχειροκροτούμενοι.
Σε γενικές γραμμές ήταν ένα αρκετά καλό live για τους Antimatter που αποδεικνύονται συναυλιακή σταθερά του ελληνικού κοινού (ας μη ξεχνάμε και το ηχογραφημένο live τους στο An), που ικανοποίησαν τους φίλους τους, όπως μπορούσα να διακρίνω και στα πρόσωπα των παρευρισκομένων καθώς φεύγαμε από το Death Disco.
